Patriot Xeno: The Man.

I quote to you the content of an email sent to yours truly by the lovely Pamela:
I cant believe! I love you. I linked it and you!

In case you guys missed the part that I bolded, she clearly professes her love for me. This is exactly the break I've been looking for!

I love you too, Pamela.

I can't believe how awesome I am.

And in the back story, she called in to Rush today, and the transcript was then posted on Rush's main page (which I pointed out when I emailed to congratulate her). Actually, go read
her post, too - on a big "Stand for Israel" rally in NYC - good stuff.

Oh and get this, some idiot commenter on her post had the quote "How is it that the UN has "Israel's blood on its hands" for 60 years when it was the UN that created Israel?"

Right, since Israel was never ever heard of before the UN - not even in the Bible.

ha, I was listening to Rush as I was sitting in my car (A/C running, thank you very much Al Gore) in the parking lot of the KFC (eating that mashed potato/corn/chicken bowl thing, which I recommend everyone try at least once)... um, so anyway, I was listening to Rush when she called and it didnt occur to me that it was THE Pamela. until she plugged her blog. then I said, "ohhhh"

I was going to email you and see if you were listening, but I forgot that I hate you.

that is all.

apparently mythbusters did a segment one time (i didn't watch it, just heard about it) where they busted the myth that running the A/C uses more fuel than otherwise. Frankly, i rarely get into my car now without the a/c going strong. unless i'm cold.

running the A/C uses horsepower. when you're accelerating on the highway, try turning the A/C off and on as you are speeding up, and you'll notice a significant difference. the only thing is, running the A/C burns about the same amount of gas as rolling the windows down (because of wind drag and such). the only good way is having the windows up and using the regular vent. but that, frankly, sucks.

1. I had some new Garlic Crunch chicken at KFC last week. It was quite good. The wife hated the stank that emanated from me for about a day afterward though.

2. Windows are better at lower speeds, A/C at higher speeds. I really don't understand how people can stand to drive down the highway at 70 mph with their windows down, but I see them doing it. Suckers don't realize they're not saving any gas! I say screw it, even at 30 mph when I might get 2-3 more mpg out of my car by using the windows I'll use the A/C. I'm not a college student anymore. And I go through a tank about every 3 weeks.

3. It's 4:41 in the AM and I'm debating between going to sleep or just going to work. Leaning toward going to work, but that'll just screw my sleep schedule up even more. BUT if I can manage to stay awake until 8-9:00 I figure that should make me wake up at a reasonable time the next day... I don't know why I'm writing all of this on your blog - apparantly the 2 cold beers I had in the fridge were not enough to help me sleep, but they were enough to make me write my life story on your blog. I guess I'll go to work, I like working when no one else is there.

Rock on.

well right, that's supposedly the myth that they "busted". they said anymore, the a/c doesn't make enough of a difference to ever notice any increase or decrease in fuel efficiency.

and i just looked it up, and apparently the guy who told me about it has no idea what he's talking about, so i take back everything i said. the myth they actually busted was that at 55 mph, it is actually better to roll down your windows than to use the a/c. which is very disappointing

There's an interesting graph here about fuel consumption in the summer.

And in the comments here, people seem to think the mythbusters were being pretty sloppy in this particular test. The NASCAR engineer is particularly persuasive.

Of course, I could test this myself, driving one week with just the vents, one week with just A/C. But I absolutely refuse to drive without A/C for that long.

They also tested whether it's more efficient to drive a pickup truck with the tailgate up or down, but instead of testing it in a wind tunnel to measure the drag coefficient like many SMRT people have done before them, they decided to drive two Ford F-150s together on a highway, thereby introducing countless other variables. They came up with the right conclusion (tailgate up is better) and they followed it up with a cool demonstration using a tank of water and some little floaty balls, but if they went with the wind tunnel they might have discovered that a tonneau cover is even more efficient than the tailgate up or down.

Ah well, they manage to make science entertaining, even if it isn't really science.

I hate A/C. Much rather have windows at any speed. But... I'm a weirdo.

From a moron who thinks Israel was created by the UN to A/C & Myth Busters interesting train of thought....
