I Take Full Responsibility
So I'm at the Sox game last night. 7th inning, bases loaded, Sox down 4-2, I put on my rally cap. For one pitch. Grand-slam, Paul Konerko, Sox lead 6-4. The cap goes away until the bottom of the 9th. I put it on for Uribe, who flies out on a deep drive to center. The next guy up, Podsednik, hits a walk-off HR to win the game - during the regular season, he didn't hit a single HR.
Yes, Sox fans, thank me. I will also accept your grateful donations.
While it was a tremendously exciting game, it was still somebody else's team. I celebrated, but at no time was I not painfully aware that their joy was not mine. And so I wait for yet another season, for my team to disappoint me, as they do every year.

Are you a Royal's fan, perchance? Because between the Royals and the Chiefs, I've been disappointed since about, roughly, 1988.
As a reformed Tigers Fan (ever since they were decertified as a MLB team) I have consolation in knowing the futility of the Indians. Now that the Red Sox have won it is only a matter of tiem for the Cubs and Indians and alas I will be stuck alone with the Detroit Mudhens.
BTW - it's frikin hockey season. C'mon get with it. Go Wings!
1988? ha!
the last time the Flyers won a Cup or the Eagles won a Championship was long before I was even born...
Grim - the last time the Lions won a Championship was before I was born. Now that is a long time ago.
How old were you again, in 1988? That's the year I graduated from college and the Royals won the world series.
At least I suppose I can be comforted in knowing that some teams have sucked LONGER than the royals, if not harder. I think the Royals suck harder than the Feisty Republican Whore.
1985 dude...royals won the series in 1985...you've been disappointed for 3 more years than you realize
tigers in '84, mets '86, twins '87, dod-gers '88
Sadly, I see little to no chance that the 'Stros could come back here. They may win tomorrow with Oswalt on the hill, but 2-0 is a hell of a deficit to come back from. Might help if they stop putting in Brad Lidge.
And so it seems that the Tribe will now move up to second place on the list of longest World Series droughts, behind only the hapless Cubs.
Maybe if they sign Piazza and have him play first... oh well, nevermind.
no team that has been denied by the gods for almost 100 years is going to get to hoist the trophy that easily...it's still going at least 6
Is it terrible of me that I hope the Soxs choke just so that I don't have to hear the parties in Chicago? Riots I can handle, glee I cannot. Well from the Southsiders anyway. I mean I'd love for a Chicago team to not suck, but I'd rather it be my team that didn't suck....
I thought on the Southside they rioted WITH glee....
And Schramm... i hope you got sprinkled with holy water and wore a necklace of garlic going into that forbidden place... Comisk...errr... US Cellular... blecccchhh!! I'd rather go to a Purdue Basketball (HA!) game.
god, that's what happens when you get f'ing old...your memory goes into the toilet. The royals DID win the world series in '85. I'm confusing them with the KU Jayhawks who won the NCAA championship in '88. Must apologize, was in college then, those years were a bit of a blur for me.
